ADR Experience:
  • Served as an arbitrator or mediator in over 250 complex business, commercial, construction, and real estate disputes, including many cases involving multimillion dollar claims
  • As one of the founders of the King County Superior Court Mandatory Arbitration Program, assisted in developing the concept, advocated it before various bar associations and the Washington Legislature, assisted with drafting the legislation and the court rules, and served for many years on the bench-bar committee in King County that first implemented the program

Representative Matters

  • Commercial: numerous cases involving interpretation of various commercial contracts, including contracts relating to media services, real estate commissions, education services, rental of heavy equipment, water rights, price of natural gas, co-generation of electrical power, real estate leases, landlord/tenant matters, environmental remediation, gravel pit operation, real estate purchase and sale agreements, business purchase and sale agreements (both asset and stock sales), dissolution of law firms and physician practices
  • Construction: disputes between owner and general contractor, between owner and design professional, or between general contractor and subcontractor involving design and/or construction of hydroelectric projects, hospitals, correctional facilities, multi-family housing, condominiums, single-family residences, sewer lines, roads, alarm systems and so forth; issues included interpretation of construction or design contracts, claims regarding construction defects, delay, cost overruns, and change in conditions
