Legal Experience

and Work History:

I have worked at Frank Freed Subit & Thomas and its earlier incarnations since 1984, and have been a partner in the firm since 1989. I have also conducted independent investigations for the United States government into charges of workplace discrimination, and have submitted written findings to the appropriate federal agencies. Additionally, I serve as an adjunct professor of law at Seattle University School of Law.

Focus of Law Practice: The focus of my law practice is on employment and labor law, and civil rights litigation generally, with an emphasis on discrimination arising under federal and state laws, wrongful discharge, and wage and hour cases. While the majority of my practice involves representing individual employees and labor organizations, I also continue to represent some employers, including some not for profit corporations. I now devote approximately 15% of my time to serving as a mediator and arbitrator.

Professional Associations: Former Chair and current Trustee, King County Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section; Washington State Bar Association; AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee; Washington and National Employment Lawyers Associations; Federal Bar ProBono Screening Committee.

Alternative Dispute
Resolution (ADR) Training: In January 1996, I completed the Professional Mediation Skills Training Certificate Program, administered by the University of Washington School of Law. I also regularly attend training sessions with Washington Arbitration and Mediation Service, with which I am affiliated, and am a frequent speaker on mediation at seminars and continuing legal education classes.

ADR Experience: I am currently affiliated with the Washington Arbitration and Mediation Service. I have mediated over 100 cases, most of them employment cases arising under state and federal laws. I have arbitrated a variety of cases under King County Mandatory Arbitration. I estimate I have served as an arbitrator in 10 to 15 cases, including personal injury, contract disputes, and employment matters.

ADR Practice Areas: Civil Rights, Contracts, Employment
