Since 1960, experienced as a transactional and litigation lawyer in representing contractors, vendors, architects and engineers, owners and developers on public and private projects (approximately 50% of practice including time as an arbitrator or mediator). In the first decade, this included representation of the AGC, NECA, MCA and PDCA.
Also perform services relating to various business formations, ESOPs, real estate purchase, sale and lease transactions, employment, noncompetition and license agreements. General counsel for AAA Coffee Service, Amenity Services Corporation, Parametrix, Inc., and Magnum Laser Systems. Representative clients have been or are: Boise Cascade Corporation; Strand Capital Corporation; Tams (Tibbits, Abbott, McCarthy and Stratton Engineers); The Rainier Fund. Since 1972, extensive experience as an arbitrator and since 1984 as a mediator.

| Resolution (ADR) Training: |
AAA basic arbitrator training 1972 and advanced training at least every other year thereafter. Mediator training initially by AAA in 1984 and mediator and arbitrator training annually thereafter by AAA, Settlement Now, Federal Bar Association and the Institute of Conflict Management. Served on AAA faculty, and Washington State, King County Bar Associations and Federal Bar Association faculty for numerous arbitration and mediation seminars since 1972 (mediation since 1985).

Currently hearing approximately 100 mediations and arbitrations (about 1 arbitration for every 10 mediations) per year. Examples are: as the Chair of a panel or sole arbitrator in hydroelectric dam construction disputes each involving between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000 damages; mediator in a class action involving 250 commission sales employees in an overtime dispute with a chain store electronics retailer with damages claimed in excess of $6,000,000. Mediation cases each involving more than $2,000,000 between a multi-state bank and its fidelity bonding company and a construction contractor and its surety. Numerous mediations involving small businesses, partnerships, schools, hospitals, tunnels and utilities, commercial buildings, single and multi-family projects with claims valued to more than $10,000,000 (and as little as $10,000). |
