Filing a Civil Motion

 

To file your motion in a civil case, click on "Civil" in the blue menu bar, then choose "Motions" in the "Motions and Related Filings" category. Screen by screen, you will:

  1. Enter the case number.
  1. Choose the type of motion.
  1. Select the filer.
  1. Upload your document.
  1. Upload and name any attachments, if necessary.

Why do I file declarations

separately?

  1. Indicate Oral Argument, if requested on the motion.
  1. Enter the noting date.
  1. Complete your filing and submit it to the ECF system.
  1. View, save, and print the Notice of Electronic Filing. This is your receipt, and lists all those who received the document via electronic service and those who must be served by conventional means. Note: SEALED documents are not served electronically.

After logging out of the ECF system, send an e-mail to the judge attaching the proposed order in Word or WordPerfect format. 

  • The format of the e-mail address is: [JudgeLastName]Orders@wawd.uscourts.gov.
    For example: LasnikOrders@wawd.uscourts.gov
  • Remember to put the case number and name of the proposed order in the subject line of the e-mail.

Proposed orders on motions for default made pursuant to Civil Local Rule 55 are sent in Word or Word Perfect format to the Clerk's Office at the following e-mail address:

  • WAWDClerk@wawd.uscourts.gov
  • No other documents or pleadings may be sent to the Clerk's Office at this email address.
