Announcement of Judicial Appointments
to the United States District Court
for the Western District of Washington
As a result of the notices of senior status regarding Chief Judge Pechman and Judges Lasnik and Robart, there will be three vacancies on the federal bench in the Western District of Washington. The duty station for each position is in Seattle. The White House, working in conjunction with Senators Murray and Cantwell and Congressman Reichert, has agreed to a bipartisan committee process to screen and interview candidates. The Committee will then make recommendations to the two U.S. Senators, who will make a final recommendation to the White House. The Judicial Selection Committee has six members appointed by Senators Murray and Cantwell and Congressman Reichert.
If you are interested in being considered for appointment to any of these three positions, you will be asked to provide the Committee with personal background and professional information in the form of responses to an application. Only individuals who have fully completed the application and provided the requested materials will be considered. After review of responses to the application, the Committee will determine whom it will interview. The deadline for completing the application and providing the required information is October 16, 2015.
The application is available on the Court’s website (www.wawd.uscourts.gov) as well as the website for the Federal Bar Association (www.fba-wdwash.org) and shall be submitted electronically to the Committee Co-Chairs listed below. All applications will be held confidential by the Committee. They will be reviewed by the Committee and may be shared with the Senators, Rep. Reichert, and the White House. Any nominated candidate will be subject to a full background investigation by federal law enforcement and Senate confirmation. For further information, please contact one of the Committee Co-Chairs:
