The use of competent federal court interpreters in proceedings involving speakers of languages other than English is critical to ensure justice is carried out fairly for defendants and other stakeholders.
The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts is responsible for the Federal Court Interpreter Program.
Information is provided for federal court interpreters and those who wish to become federal court interpreters.
Interpreters are classified into one of three Interpreter Categories.
Each interpreter who will be providing services for the court must enter into a contract with the court. Contracts are renewed every two years.
