THE NEXT GENERATION OF CM/ECF IS COMING SOON
The United States District Court for the Western District of Washington will be upgrading its CM/ECF software to the Next Generation (NextGen) of CM/ECF in January 2020. Once the court has upgraded, attorneys and pro se filers will only be able to access CM/ECF through the Central Sign-On functionality (via PACER) to electronically file documents.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NOW
You must have your own upgraded individual PACER account
Do you have an existing individual PACER account? If you are unsure, follow this guide
If Yes, is your PACER account already upgraded? If any of the below statements are true, your account has already been upgraded.
- You upgraded your account for use with another NextGen court.
- You created your PACER account on, or after, August 10, 2014.
- You upgraded your PACER account with the Ninth Circuit after the original announcement was posted October 27, 2014.
- Your PACER Account Type is listed as Upgraded PACER Account under Manage My Account.

Do you have an existing shared firm PACER account?
If Yes, you must create an individual account. This will need to be done for each attorney listed on a shared account. For billing purposes, a PACER Administrative Account may be created for your firm.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO ONCE NEXTGEN IS LIVE IN JANUARY
You must know your current CM/ECF login and password
Do you know your current CM/ECF login and password?
If Yes- You are ready to proceed. See More Information below
If No- Please use the password reset feature from the CM/ECF page. You may also contact ECF Support at 206-370-8440 or 866-323-9293, or via email at email@example.com NOTE: It is critical that you have this information before the NextGen upgrade has been implemented.
Additional instructions will be provided the first week of January 2020, including information about linking to your Pacer account and expectations for accessing CM/ECF after the upgrade.
