Public Notice re: Reappointment of Part-Time Magistrate Judge

The current four-year term of office of part-time United States Magistrate Judge Paula McCandlis is due to expire on May 1, 2020.  The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the Magistrate Judge to a new four-year term.

The duties of the part-time Magistrate Judge position include the following:

    (1) trial and disposition of petty and misdemeanor cases arising from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station; (2) conduct of regular calendars involving charges of traffic offenses and violations of park regulations in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and North Cascades National Park, and in other areas within federal jurisdiction; (3) conduct of various preliminary proceedings in criminal cases.  The jurisdiction of the Part-Time Magistrate Judge is specified in 28 U.S.C. 636(a).

Comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether the incumbent Magistrate Judge should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the court and should be directed to:
