Judge Jamal N. Whitehead Biography

The Honorable Jamal N. Whitehead is a United States District Judge for the Western District of Washington. President Joseph Biden nominated him to serve on the federal bench on July 13, 2022, and Judge Whitehead received his judicial commission on March 14, 2023.

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Whitehead was a shareholder at the Seattle law firm of Schroeter Goldmark & Bender, where he litigated civil cases in state and federal courts, including individual and class action employment law cases and tort matters. Before joining SGB, Judge Whitehead was a federal trial attorney, working as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for the Western District of Washington and as a Senior Trial Attorney for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Judge Whitehead began his legal career as a commercial litigator at the Seattle office of Garvey Schubert Barer (n/k/a Foster Garvey).

A leader in the legal community, Judge Whitehead has served on the boards of several local community and statewide organizations and bar associations.

Raised in the Seattle area, Judge Whitehead earned his B.A. in political science from the University of Washington and his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law.
